Kate Parsons has about 15 years experience of the creative industries. She has BA(Hons) Graphic Design and MA (Distinction) International Design and Communication Management. She also has qualifications in German, to teach adults and to teach English as a Foreign Language.

Kate likes design especially when it's surrounded with other tasks such as project managing, planning and commissioning others. She's a bit of a planner, and likes to think around the task in hand.

Kate likes language: she's completely pedantic about grammar and punctuation and thinks Lynn Truss is a godess; she's fascinated about how languages work and the links between them, and has read loads on the evolution of English. Kate speaks fluent German (having lived and worked there) and her Spanish is 'not bad'. Kate has worked on a lot of multi-language design and typesetting projects and can follow most European languages, and decipher the cyrillic alphabet at a push.

Kate has worked for small design agencies and as principal designer of a large corporation's European marcoms (that's marketing communications) department, but has mostly been self-employed – working freelance for design agencies and in-house marketing departments and directly for businesses. Being freelance means being able to take on the challenge of other work, like teaching English to a German woman in 2007, or running arts workshops and it also means she can take a holiday without having to ask the boss first.
