"Kate started working at Isambard Community School as a teacher of drawing in an after school club in the academic year 2007 / 2008. Prior to this she had worked with some of our students in a transition project during which she designed the corporate logo for our new school. After proving herself to be very reliable and building a good relationship with the students, Kate was asked to teach both Art and Graphic Design for one afternoon a week to both year 7 and Year 8 students for the whole of the Academic Year 2008 / 2009. During this period of time she has conscientiously prepared for and delivered very interesting lessons. She has also marked and assessed students' work. I feel confident that Kate would be successful in all sectors of education and I would recommend her to you."
TERRY CONAHAN, DEPUTY HEADTEACHER, ISAMBARD COMMUNITY SCHOOL, SWINDON

"Kate has been involved as a professional artist with Isambard School for the last 2 academic years. Firstly, she was successfully awarded the contract by Artpoint to deliver a participatory project with 10/11 year olds transferring to Isambard Community School. The aim of the project was to work with students to design a logo. This involved collaboration with staff, students and other artists over a period of several months.

Secondly, she has worked weekly in Isambard School as one of a team of eighty artists delivering the Flux Programme with Artsmad. This has involved running out-of-school hours arts activities for young people and particularly supporting youngsters who have been identified as talented artists. Artsmad has appointed Kate to lead on 2 exhibitions of students work. The Artsmad Director is happy to vouch for Kate's excellent work with young people". KIRSTY CARTER, DIRECTOR, ARTSMAD, SWINDON

"The children had great fun and learnt a lot about graphic design too. Nicola (teaching assistant) and I took lots of photos at the end of our chocolate theme. Nicola made the chocolate eggs with the children in the final week of term so they all had an egg to take home in their Easter egg box. They were so proud of what they had made and even some of parents seemed very appreciative of our efforts!

Lisa Joyce (from RiO) came back into school (about a week after you had left) to interview some of the children and myself to find out our thoughts about the whole project. Our response was very positive. This was due to many reasons, for example:

You had an instant rapport with the children and you spoke to them at their level in a way that could be understood by 9 year olds; You were very calm with the children and had time for all of them; You encouraged the children to reflect on their work (and others') and you regularly shared and praised their efforts; I thought the work that you had planned to introduce graphic design (chocolate logo work etc.) was suitably-pitched to the children's level and was of relevance and interest, and children were able to develop their ideas and skills through the making of the miniature mock-ups."
